About Arrowsmith Lodge
Arrowsmith Lodge opened in 1971 as a self-supporting non-denominational home for low-income seniors in Parksville, on Vancouver Island. The name was derived from the lumber that was cut from the land and sold to help purchase the site and build the facilities. In 1978 they transitioned to a publicly funded and not for profit model where individual basic care is subsidized by the provincial government through Island Health. Basic care is the government’s minimum set of standards. That is not good enough for the people entrusted to us.
The Arrowsmith Health Care Society operates both Arrowsmith Lodge (a 75 bed long-term care home) and Cokely Manor (30 assisted living residences with an adult day program). It is the mission focus that grounds this organization, to provide a home with exceptional care, that goes beyond the minimum, showing respect and protecting individual dignity. The Arrowsmith Health Care Society is working to set the precedent for long term care in our country.
Arrowsmith needs your help to reach our $20,000 fundraising goal. After several celebration events under our covered driveway entrance at the main lodge, we see the need to create a safe event space within our beautiful grounds. We want to host arts and crafts fairs, invite community choirs and musical groups, celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, in essence, we want to bring the community in for those who are unable to venture out.
Please partner with us...walk with us...help us create a vibrant Campus of Care for Seniors in our community living at Arrowsmith Lodge and Cokely Manor.
