Bridges Community Living's mission is to provide affordable housing for those 55+ with appropriate supports in a caring environment. It is also our mandate to provide safe, welcoming and comfortable homes where our residents feel connected to a vibrant community.


About The Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre

The Golden Circle is a vibrant hub for seniors’ to meet, build community and enjoy the company and support of their peers. Since 1977, the Centre has provided programs, activities, information, resources and outreach for older adults, their families and caregivers.

The Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre provides information, referrals, resources, programs, activities and community support services through our Outreach team for the purpose of enriching independent, healthy lifestyles for all older adults, their families and caregivers in Red Deer and surrounding communities.

We invite you to explore our website and discover who we are and what we have to offer. There is something for everyone here at the Golden Circle!

Our Outreach Workers are available to help you, older family members, neighbours and friends with several pertinent issues surrounding aging and aging well.

The Golden Circle is a non-profit charitable organization, we appreciate your generosity through donations and volunteering to help us to continue fun events, programs and the valuable support we provide the older adults in our Red Deer community.

Event Day Details

Save the date - Event Day is September 17, 2022!

There will be entertainment before and after the walk by local artists who have supported Bridges Community Living and The Golden Circle in the past.

The Grand Parade walk in support of Bridges Community Living and the Golden Circle will begin at the entrance to the parking lot on 47a Avenue and will end at the back parking lot of the Golden Circle on 47th Avenue. Parking for walkers will be at the Recreation Centre parking lot.


Entertainment and light treats will begin at 10 am until 11 am and then again at 11:45 am until 12:45 pm while all walkers are enjoying a BBQ lunch and entertainment.

Important Notes

A light continental breakfast will be served prior to the walk, followed by a BBQ at the conclusion of the walk along with plenty of beverages before, during and after the walk. Have some fun with this event, have your team dress up the same, wear funky costumes and even challenge other departments where you work to participate and to help raise funds for these two charities.

Schedule

  • 10:00 am: Meet Check-in opens
  • 11:00 am: Move Opening remarks + send-off
  • 12:00 pm: Munch Light meal served
  • 1:00 pm: Mosey Go Home

Check-in

  • All walkers check-in personally at the event on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
  • T-shirts! Fundraising walkers who raise $150+ (or $75+ for those under 18) will receive a TGP shirt as a thank you on Event Day, while supplies last.
  • There is no registration fee to participate in The Grand Parade, but most walkers raise $250-300 or more in support of their charity.
  • No money or cheques will be processed at check-in.

Can't join us on event day?

If you have a conflict, we hope you'll join us by fundraising and walking on your own.

Waivers

All participants should register online and accept the electronic waiver.

  • Adults: When you register online, you will automatically accept an electronic waiver, which is all that is needed for adults.
  • Youth/Children: If you have youth or children on your team, they will need to have their parent or guardian sign a printed paper waiver.
  • Waivers will be available at check-in on Event Day.

Route Details

  • Route Distances: We have a great route where you can walk 2.5 km or 5 km with us.
  • Rest Stop: There will be one rest stop with yummy snacks and drinks.
  • Signage: The route will be well-signed with our bold burgundy TGP signs.
  • Route Support: Route marshals and rest stop hosts will provide support along the route.
  • 12 and Under walkers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

What to Bring

A few common sense suggestions:

  • A cell phone for emergencies (recommended but not required)
  • Good shoes for walking
  • Extra snacks if you have allergies or food sensitivities
  • Your own water bottle
  • A passion for the charity you're walking and fundraising for
